Export your HostedRedmine.com projects

Added by Brad Rushworth over 6 years ago

You can now export your HostedRedmine.com projects free of charge. Simply go to https://www.hostedredmine.com/export/index.php and enter your login details. This will export your data in MySQL format and zip up all your uploaded files.

When you export your HostedRedmine.com data, it will export your private data along with any other user's data that is accessible within projects you are involved in. This should enable easy migration of company data to your new private Redmine installation.

The version of Redmine and plugins in use on HostedRedmine.com can be found on the Plugins page.

This service is free of charge and fully automated. Support for non-English character sets may be limited, if this is causing you problems please let me know.

If you have any problems with this service, please raise a new support issue.

how about importing the project data? :) I personally don't need this, but someone may find it useful.

This is totally awesome!

After few months of intensive use of your service, I started to worry about having own backup of my data. And now I found this news topic.
Thank you very much!

It is difficult to do importing because the issue numbers would have to change to available numbers on HostedRedmine.com.

Added by Stephane SLIMS almost 5 years ago

this is really not a problem, is it ?
If old issues can be imported, we don't matter about thier ID

Added by Brad Rushworth almost 5 years ago

All the content related to Issues are linked together using the Issue Number. In addition, many issues, wikis, etc, link to each other using the issue numbers. The import would cause things to be very broken.

Technically, all the numbering issues could be dealt with, but this is hard to do and I'm not aware of any existing implementations.

I was thinking of only importing issues into a project, and not the other things. It can be interesting when you move from another software to redmine. You export your issues and reformat them on Excel and import in Redmine. Ofcourse, this reformatting job has to be done, but with queries, it can be quite fast.
This way,you can keep all your issues in one location, allowing global searches.

Thanks for this quick answer ;-)

Brad, you indicated in http://www.redmine.org/issues/3647#note-44 that you'd be willing to release the code for the export. Is that still a possibility?

Alex,

Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, it is possible. I will email you direct.

Hi Brad.

Many thanks for the code. After take it a look it produces a .zip file containing following files:

1. MySQL dump of the tables and registries related with the user passed as a parameter to the script
2. All the attachments of the already mentioned user

This is fine, but it's almost impossible to restore the dump in a already running redmine instance, since the id's (user, project, etc...) will collide.

If you want I can help you to write down a new "restore.php" script that should basically check unique ID's of the tables and re-write the same id's of the dump in order to make the mysql import process smooth.

Cheers.

Javier,

It is designed to be imported into a fresh Redmine instance. I'm not sure why you would want to import into an existing Redmine instance?

Feel free to make those modifications. I'm not quite sure how you will renumber the unique ID's on the export side through, wouldn't that be more relevant for the import side?

By the way, I would love a utility that allows me to import tickets from another Redmine instance into HostedRedmine.com.

Hi Brad.

Use cases:

a)

Redmine source -> full access to DB
Redmine destination -> full access to DB / Fresh installation

Procedure:

1. Use your script or simply do a full mysqldump + manual file copy
2. Restore on destination (if versions are different, 'sudo RAILS_ENV=production rake db:migrate')

b)

Redmine source -> full access to DB
Redmine destination -> full access to DB / Redmine already have projects

Procedure:

1. Use your script to get the backup of source
2. PROBLEM: you will not be able to restore the backup due to unique keys conflict

I'm personally on scenario b), so a script for restore is needed here. In other words we need a way (I think is not done yet) to move projects smoothly across redmine instances.

I hope that makes sense.

Javier,

I understand. However your problem with unique issue numbers is entirely on the import process... nothing to do with the export process. Hence my previous comment.

You need to write a new importing script.
